Applying Filters to Your Bet Data

A big part of TSM is being able to analyse historical bet data and find ways to increase our edge. Having an edge, is the single most important part of your betting. If your selection system does not make a profit to level stakes then you do not have an edge.

By using Filters on our historical data we can find areas where the selection system appears to perform better than expected. This could simply be an odds range or even race distance (Horse Racing).

There are 2 types of Filters in TSM. Basic and Advanced.

Basic Filters – Set your odds range or search strings manaully and filter on a particular column.

Advanced Filters – Display your filtered results as a Report.  Allows in-depth analysis where TSM can filter on additional data (if present) in the Spare 1 and Spare 2 columns of your data. Available Filters include Race Course, Race Type, Race Distance, Date by Month.

This short video from our You Tube Channel shows how easy it is to use the Basic Filters in TSM.

This video, again from our You Tube Channel show cases the Advanced Filters in TSM.

Why Filters Matter

Using Filters enhances your betting analysis by providing clarity, efficiency, and actionable insights. By narrowing down data sets and focusing on specific scenarios, TSM helps you spot trends and refine your betting strategies for improved performance.

It is important not to Over Filter our historical data though. If you apply too many filters you are in danger of what is known as Back Fitting. This is where you force the input (Filters) to match your output (Results). The secret is to find an edge using as few filters as possible, leaving you with a large data set but with a small egde.

If you filter too much, and end up with a small data set and large edge, then it is highly likely that going forward the results will not meet your expectations.
